Landscapes

Every landscape painting tells a story of a place that I have been to or that I love.

To capture the mood of a landscape, that is revealed by the amount of light and/or the way the light falls on it, fascinates me. As the light changes during a single day or at different times of the year many moods are revealed. Because of the changing light and the complex and irregular shapes in nature, landscape paintings are a challenging and unpredictable genre. It requires an understanding of perspective and the ability to portray the subtle changes in colour as the light changes.

I include under Landscapes my paintings of succulents like the aloe and the quiver tree in their natural habitat as well as paintings where I paint flowers and/or any plant in an enlarged format. Capturing the beauty of flowers or any plant in an enlarged format where depth of field and three-dimensional effects is created stay a challenge. And again, to paint succulents like the aloe and the quiver trees with their aloof like postures and simple lines intrigue me and give me endless pleasure.
